Birkenstocks, Sandals and Adilettes

ENG: Until recently, Birkenstocks were right behind Crocs on the list of the most unattractive shoes on this earth. This season it is different: Birkenstocks are the must-haves of the summer! 

Prejudices that the heatly shoes are only for tree huggers and the elder generation, can be forgotten. If you look at streetstyle pictures from the biggest fashion capitals such as Paris, New York or Milan, you can see more and more flat sandals on the feet of fashionistas and even when I was in Berlin, I spotted a lot of flat shoes among the Fashion Week visitors. Though I never thought that I would go to a fashion event or a Fashion Week in flats, I decided against high heels this year. 

Only last year Birkenstocks still would have ended up on my no-go list and I'm still not entirely convinced of them. So I started looking for an alternative, that reflects my style 100 percent. The white sandals with golden chain, i found at River Island, are ideal fit for me and emphasize my preference for a lot of gold jewelry. 

Perhaps this is only a step towards an endless Birkenstock-love, because the hype to the orthopedic sandals will certainly not disappear next summer. The company has planed some interesting styles. On the Bread & Butter in Berlin you could already admire some of the upcoming models. Shiny leather, rivets, neon colors, snake leather pattern are coming in new forms. At least when the metallic Birkenstocks will be available with stylish, thin straps, they will end up in my shopping cart for sure. There is only one sandal trend I will certainly not fall for: Adilette - this is a little bit too much for me.

DE: Bis vor kurzem lagen Birkenstocks gleich hinter Crocs auf der Liste der unattraktivsten Schuhen dieser Erde. Diese Saison ist das anders: Birkenstocks sind das must-have des Sommers! 

Vorurteile, dass der orthophädische Schuh nur etwas für Ökos und ältere Menschen sei, kann man getrost vergessen. Schaut man sich Streetstylebilder aus den größten Modemetropolen wie Paris, New York oder Mailand an, sieht man immer mehr flache Sandalen an den Füßen der Fashionistas und auch als ich die Fashion-Crowd, bei der Fashion Week in Berlin beobachtet habe, waren die flachen Schuhe keine Seltenheit. Obwohl ich nie gedacht hätte, dass ich mal in Latschen eine Fashion Week mitmachen würde, entschied ich mich in diesem Jahr doch gegen High Heels und für Sandalen.

Zugegeben, letztes Jahr wären Birkenstocks bei mir auch auf der No-Go Liste gelandet und so ganz überzeugt bin ich immer noch nicht. Also suchte ich nach einer Alternative, die 100ig meinen Stil wiederspiegelt. Bei River Island wurde ich dann fündig: die weißen Sandalen mit goldener Kette passen ideal zu mir und meiner Vorliebe für viel Goldschmuck. 

Vielleicht ist dies auch nur ein Schritt in Richtung Birkenstock-Anhänger, denn der Hype, um die orthopädischen Latschen wird nächsten Sommer sicher noch nicht verschwinden. Dafür hat das Unternehmen noch einige interessante Styles für parat. Auf der Bread&Butter in Berlin konnte man bereits einige der kommenden Modelle bewundern. Lack, Nieten, Neonfarben, Schlangenlederoptik oder Muster kommen in neuen Formen daher und lassen die Schuhe auf der Attraktivitätsskala nach oben aufsteigen. Spätestens wenn die Metallic Birkenstocks mit stylischen, schmalen Riemen erhältlich sein werden, landen sie in meinen Warenkorb. Nur bei einem Latschen-Trend werde ich sicherlich nicht mitmachen: Adiletten - die sind mir dann doch etwas zu viel.

About soccer, boyfriends and dates

ENG: The World Cup is almost here and in my case it means, that I can say goodbye to my boyfriend for several weeks. Actually, it is not the WC's fault. Soccer itself is the problem. No matter if Euroleague, DFB Cup, European championship, caps, friendlies, UEFA super cup or Bundesliga, somewhere is always a super important game, which can't be missed out by my boyfriend.

To see him, I have to plan our dates around the schedule. Like recently on a Sunday when I planned to go to a restaurant using a MyDays voucher. Of course I've asked him earlier, before I booked the four-course meal (unfortunately while he was watching soccer, so he just nodded absently).

At the beginning of the Date he was relaxed, but with every course, his tension rose and he started to tell me the countdown till the start of  the game more frequently. I stayed pretty cool and enjoyed the awesome meal:  salad and ewe's cheese from the oven, carrot-orange-ginger-soup, cutlet and asparagus and creme brulee ice cream. With a mixture of annoyance and amusement I watched him ask the friendly waitress, if the next course can be served right afterwards the previous, so he can be as fast as possible at home. Since she "also has a football fan at home", she showed understanding for him, while she gave me a pitying look. 

Against 11 men in tricots, women simply have no chance!

DE:  Die WM steht vor der Tür und in meinem Fall bedeutet dies, dass ich mich für einige Wochen von meinem Freund verabschieden kann. Eigentlich ist ja auch nicht die WM Schuld. Es ist ein generelles Problem mit dem Fußball.Ob Europaleague, DFB Pokal, Europameisterschaft, Länderspiele, Freundschaftspiele, UEFA Supercup oder Bundesligaspiele, irgendwo findet immer irgendein wichtiges Spiel statt, welches der Freund auf keinen Fall verpassen darf. 

Der Gute hat nur dann Zeit, wenn man die Dates um den Spielplan herum plant. So wie kürzlich an einem Sonntag beim Champions League Finale. Für diesen Tag haben wir über MyDays ein 4-Gänge-Menü im Restaurant Scharf in Hamburg gebucht. Den Termin habe ich natürlich vorher mit ihm abgesprochen (unglücklicherweise, während er Fußball geschaut hat und somit nur halb anwesend, abgenickt hat). 

Am Anfang des Dates noch ganz entspannt, wurde er dann mit jedem Gang nervöser und der Blick wanderte immer häufiger zur Uhr, um mir den Countdown bis zum Beginn des Championsleague Spiels mitzuteilen. Ich ließ mich davon nicht aus der Ruhe bringen und genoss das gute Essen: Salat und Schafskäse aus dem Ofen, Karotten-Orangen-Ingwer-Suppe, Schnitzel mit Spargel und Creme Brulee Eis. Mit einer Mischung aus Verärgerung und Belustigung sah ich zu, wie er die nette Kellnerin bat, den nächsten Gang, gleich hinterher zu servieren, um möglichst schnell wieder bei seinem Fernseher zu sein. Da sie "auch so einen Fußballfan zu Hause habe", zeigte zeigte Sie Verständnis für ihn, während sie mir einen mitleidsvollen Blick zuwarf. 

Gegen 11 Männer in Trikots, hat Frau einfach keine Chance!
